My daughter, grandson and youngest granddaughter decided that we would take the motor home and head WEST.
We plan to leave soon, visit Sister Daisy in Ohio and go South and meet up with Old Route 66. Follow that along to Prescott Valley, Arizona to visit Brother Jim. We will visit the Grand Canyon. Then on to Mesa Arizona to see Kate and down to Tucson to see Gunda. Margaret wants to take the kids to Nogales, Mexico while we are in Tucson.

Depending on the time and the HEAT we will plan our route back.  Check back to see where we are!

Left Erie on Tuesday afternoon. We went to my sister Shirley's in Tionesta. Our Air Conditioning wasn't working and we thought my brother in law Larry could check it out. We HAVE to have Air Conditioning in Arizona.

We left Erie just in time. Here at Windy's Acre we watch the news and see the damage the storm did on the Lake.  Comfy and Cozy here, a little rain didn't stop a good time. Larry cooked hot dogs on the grill and Shirley put out a feast  including watermelon, cantaloupe and strawberries. Erica and Emily were there for the weekend. Mary slept in the house with the girls but the rest of us slept in the camper.

In the morning (7/27/05) we got up and headed down to I-80 and over to Ohio to visit Sister Daisy and her husband Pim.
We arrived there around 3pm.
No rain, but a lot of wind. Daisy made spaghetti and Cole slaw and Italian bread.  Pim came out and checked out the camper. He found the problem and fixed the Air Conditioning and the TV too.  Not a very good signal up there but we got one station and the kids were happy.  Good night sleep in the camper, got chilly towards morning (should have brought a couple more blankets).

Left early and went to do a wash in Willard, Ohio.  Only brought a few changes of clothes, so have to visit the Laundromat often. This laundromat is all high tech. You buy a card for a certain amount of money. I got one for $5.00.  It cost $1.99 per wash and  42 cents for 10 minutes of drying.   You put the card in the slot and it starts the washer. Very interesting. Nice clean place, the attendant was very helpful. Across the street was a  Dollar General and Radio Shack.  Needed a fly swatter, some air freshener oh and also got a hand held CB radio so I can listen to the truckers on channel 19.

Stopping often at Rest Areas so Marg can stretch her legs. We are spending our third night of this wild vacation in Lexington, KY.  This place has internet connection and so Marg was able to get our email and update the website.
Kids went in the pool and we watched TV.
Camper in rest area

Traffic headed both ways. 7/29/05 - Getting ready to get on the road again. Great sleep, good breakfast and Mary enjoyed the pool one more time. Route 60 is right outside our motel window and we will connect with the  Martha Layne Collins Blue Mountain Parkway. Someplace we have never been before.
Saturday afternoon already. We are in Oklahoma City, OK. Amazing three state passthrough (Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas). We saw an 18 wheeler on fire and down the road a car in the middle of the highway facing the other way. Not sure which direction they were going.  Weather is great, warm in the daytime but a little cool at night.

Stopped at a White Castle and got a bag of burgers to go. Kids got some fries and mozzarella sticks too. Marg commented that the burgers tasted like my meatloaf. They were good.

At a Howard Johnson's with a pool, cable, fridge, microwave, coffee maker and high speed internet. YEA.
Once we got into Texas, it seemed like Bill was with us. Marg turned off I 40 and drove down to Red Rock Canyon. The place hasn't changed. The trees are larger, the hill is just as steep but the Four Winds took it like a charm. Some things got tossed around and one of the birds fell off the perch, but are ok..
We got a lot of good photos. photo page

Passing into New Mexico the "Land of Enchantment". Beautiful sunsets but EXPENSIVE gas. We only got enough to get us into Arizona.
Monday morning and the first day of August. We stopped at Petrified Forest and took the grand tour. We watched the 20 minute video telling us how the forest was formed. The drive was nice and we got a lot of good photos.  Bought some souvenirs and sent postcards.
Painted Desert
Leaving Petrified Forest we found a motel in Holbrook, AZ. Yep with a pool and high speed internet. We ate at a A & W Rootbeer stand. Got mugs as souvenirs. In the morning we will take off for Brother Jim's place in Prescott Valley.
Tuesday 8/2 On our way to Flagstaff we stopped at Meteor Crater and watched a movie on how and when the meteor hit Earth.

It's Wednesday already. We got into Prescott Valley Arizona Tuesday afternoon. It was a hoot because Marg kept going the wrong way. She called Jim three times asking directions, that last time she said "now stay on the phone with me until I see your door". I didn't remember exactly how to get there, but I knew she was in the wrong neighborhood. These were old houses, Jim and Evelyn live in a new big house.
Well, we finally got here.
Me in front of Jim and Evelyn's house

Jim parked our camper alongside his house in the backyard. Marg stood there squinting because there wasn't much space alongside the fenced gate.
But he got it in there. We hooked up to electric and had air conditioning and TV.  More photos.
They have 7 cats so Mary is in her glory. The backyard is breathtaking with fountains and rocks and gardens of vegetables and herbs.

It rained last night a little but this morning the sun is shining. We went to breakfast at Denny's. I used Bill's Good Sam card and got a 10 percent off our bill. The food was good. We went to Wal Mart and I got batteries for my camera so we can take more pictures.
Not sure how long we will stay here, but its nice visiting and the weather is a little cool right now. See everyone talked about how HOT it was and were worried that I would come out here in the Heat. We are fine.

Marg wanted to go up the Apache Trail and I said NO.  Evelyn and Jim said let's all take our car and truck and go to Jerome, Arizona. It's a Ghost Town and they have lots of shops and interesting  things to see. So we rode with them up the winding 19 mile trail. Jerry and I went that way last year when we visited. Albe rode with Jim, we rode with Evelyn. We had lunch at a restaurant there and got some souvenirs and took photos

Slept the night again at Jim and Evelyn's and got up in the morning to head to Tucson. Marg got Evelyn some web space and a domain name.
Evelyn is going to make a website at http://www.BasketCaseHomeSolutions.com  so later check it out.

Stopped in Mesa to visit Kate. She has a nice place and goes somewhere everyday. It was hot but we had the air conditioner going so it was ok.

We left Mesa and headed for Tom Mix. It started to rain. Not a lot,  but nice enough to cool it down. It's a shame people shot up the monument and put trash all over the place.  It was dark and cloudy, we were able to see the stars early in the morning. Once it got daylight we headed down the road.

We stopped at the Wash Tub in Tucson before calling Gunda.  Got our clothes all washed and  dried.  We pulled into Gunda's driveway and she wanted us to park around back. Marg drove the camper up the alley. It was too narrow to go into her back yard. The fence wouldn't open wide enough. So she backed all the way down the alley and we went to an RV park.  The Park is nice, it has hookup for air, water, sewer, TV and dial up internet. There is a pool and a laundry and weight room.  Kids are having fun. Gunda and Rita took us to the Golden Corral, it was nice.

Sunday the 7th of August. It is HOT. The phone cord reaches to the camper alright but the connection inside doesn't work, so Marg has to sit outside to update the website. No shade, so she has an umbrella on the table shading the laptop and her face.

We are taking the kids to Jack In The Box for lunch. Gunda and family are coming over to pick us up so we don't have to drive. Jack In The Box is like McDonalds or Burger King back home.

Rain all around us. Flooded roads and whoa the TV makes it look like we are stranded on a Desert Island, but its ok. It didn't stop up from going to Old Tucson and a ride around A Mountain. Got some nice photos and went to Arby's for lunch.  Stopped at a Rock Shop and got a couple souvenirs. This trip is full of surprises!

August 9, 2005.  Mary's birthday.  We got up early and went to Ihop for breakfast.

Mary had French toast and chocolate milk, then wanted a Grilled cheese and Fries and Hot Chocolate, So she had breakfast and lunch.

Gunda let us borrow her car to drive around, it was easier than taking the camper everywhere we go. This afternoon we are going to Peter Piper Pizza for Mary's birthday party

Thursday morning and we are still in Tucson. Rained a little but nothing major.  Called home and told them we are alright. Don't believe all you hear on the news.
Doing laundry and checking emails.  Kids are enjoying the pool once again.

SATURDAY -

It's raining Sunday, Not much to do today as the rain keeps falling. But the smell of the desert after a rain is so refreshing. No where else in the world do you get that smell.

On the road finally. We left Tucson 9am this morning.  Stopped at Texas Canyon and took some pictures. Our chauffer "Wayne" drove us to the border of New Mexico. Why a chauffer? Well, while we were there I saw a 2005 Tioga Fleetwood and traded up and did an out of state sale.  Tour of Tioga

Stopped at White Sands,  New Mexico, that was a sight to see. It has changed a lot since Marg was there last.
Spent the night in the Wal Mart parking lot in Ruidoso, N.M. They don't stay open all night like the other stores.

Tuesday - Got up at 4am Left for Roswell, NM had McDonald's for breakfast. Waited for the UFO Museum to open.
Stopped for the night in Crosbyton, Texas. A free campground with elec and water.  Great TV.  Photos

Up early and on our way 8/17 Went to Gunther, Texas at the post office and mailed some cards. Stopped in Holliday, Texas for a Dairy Queen. Just hit the spot.

EASY COOKING ON MY NEW STOVE

Stayed the night at Pat Mays Lake.  Easy cooking on my new stove. Full hookup but no swimming, it was too dirty and bugs.  Mary doesn't like crickets.

Thursday morning we went to Paris, Texas to do a wash and then on to Pearl and Paul's. Spent the day with them IT WAS SO HOT.
Paul's birthday is this month and the Choctaw Casino gives a T shirt and birthday cupcake and a free card to gamble. I won ten dollars and put it back in, Marg won $9.00 and took it home. Photos

8 pm we headed to Hugo, Oklahoma and back to Texas stopping in New Boston.  We got a motel for a good shower and TV. Had wireless Internet as well. Never got to bed until 2am.

8/19 we Entered Arkansas at 8am. Had breakfast and got emails from FREE INTERNET from the Arkansas Welcome Center.
 Only in Arkansas
 - You have the Men's room, Women's room and Family room.

Marg decided to go as far as we could, covered Tennessee and  Kentucky  with short stops at the rest areas.

Tennesee state line

Ohio welcomed us

8/20 Stopped for breakfast at the Waffle House on I-71 and Wal Mart so Mary could spend the rest of her gift card. Got a motel for the night at Sidney, Ohio. Called Daisy and said to expect us Sunday sometime. This motel has Pool, Cable, laundry and wireless internet.

Sunday afternoon we pulled into The Setzler's Ranch.
They were surprised to see us and the new RV. Pim plugged us in to the electric and we had TV and Air Conditioning. It wasn't as hot as in Arizona, but the birds enjoyed the cool air.  Daisy made a meal of her special meatloaf and macaroni salad and baked beans. We had a nice day visiting and kids watched TV.

Sunset at the Setzler's Ranch

Monday morning we headed for home.  Entering Pennsylvania we stopped at the welcome center only to find out that the state police were using it as a weigh station as well. Trucks lined up waiting to get weighed and inspected.
We stopped out at the cemetery to visit Bill.  There are tiny roses in bloom and a tree almost 3 feet tall. We stopped by the farm to check out the growth of the field, we were still able to drive up the driveway  without the RV scraping. Even the woodchucks were surprised to see us.

Arrived home safe and sound. 8/22/05
Now all I need is a driver to take me south or west when the snow flies.

States where the Tioga has been.
I've got plenty of states to fill in.
